Mudding and Stargazing with Hunting Club Friends
By: Jonathan Dinkel

On April 13th, 2013 after a work day at the club, my Mom, Dad and I were sitting around the fire pit at our trailer. I was talking to my Mom about how in some areas of the club you can see countless stars in the sky. I was begging her to let me take her to my favorite spot. Literally no sooner than I said that Mr. Ricky walked up to my parents and asked them if they wanted to go stargazing. We got on our 4-wheelers and off we went, Mr. Ricky and me, Mrs. Teresa, Mr. Jeff, Mrs. Lisa and my Mom and Dad. To get to our first field we had to go through several puddles of water that were about 15 yards long. My Mom was screaming like crazy. This was her first time mudding. Once we got past the water, the field opened up. No lights, no sounds, no cars, just pure silence and millions of stars! It was amazing!!!!
After about 15 minutes at that field it was time to move on. We went to another field in a big clearing and same thing, awesome!! Moving on we came upon a field that had two paths, the awesomely amazing one or the boring one. Mr. Ricky and I were the only ones to go on the awesomely amazing one. We got into water so deep that if I leaned back I would be swimming! When we got past the
water we came upon another trail. This one took us to a power line field. In the amidst of the night the bright stars and the huge field was totally breathtaking!!!
Since we were on a ridge there was very, very, very faint glow from Maplesville. It lit up the power line pole and made it gloomier looking than a haunted house on Halloween! This was by far my favorite
field!
Mr. Ricky led everyone to several more fields, none as breathtaking or awesome as the ones before though. There was one more really interesting thing that we did do. Since deer and other animals take routes through the woods, trails are made. Also, since the trails follow the easiest path, sometimes they are irregular paths. This one trail was a triple hairpin so it looked like everyone was about to run into each other. It was a little strange but yet very cool! Another funny thing Mr. Ricky did with me was he got way ahead of everyone else and then pulled into the woods. He waited and then when Mrs. Teresa passed us he revved the throttle all the way. It was HALARIOUS!! The only mistake Mr. Ricky made was letting me drive. That was SO much fun!!!!!
I had so much fun and my parents did too. I can’t wait to go again. It’s so great to be part of a hunting club that you can do so many things at… not just hunting deer and turkey... but also stars and mud puddles!!!
